Certificate Award Ceremony to teachers from HN Canton
Today, NDC Mostar and the Ministry of Education of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, Science held a Certificate Award Ceremony for teachers who completed their training in the field of “Education for Peace.”
In 2020/2021 school year, NDC Mostar and the Ministry of Education of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton have organized a few cycles of Peace Education trainings for 21 high-school professors from this Canton who will serve as educators in this programme. Almost 90% of all secondary schools in Herzegovina-Neretva Canton has participated in this years’ trainings. Through capacity-building trainings, NDC aimed to enable the professors to build capacities to teach in multi-ethnic setting and conduct Peace Education classes in their respective schools.
In the next phase, this group of professors organized more than 40 Peace education classes in their respective schools enabling students to strengthen their intercultural skills and develop stronger social bonds. More than 600 high-school students actively participated in these classes tackling the importance of non-violent communication and acceptance of all ethnic groups
HE Olav Reinertsen, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Bosnia and Herzegovina spoke at the occasion, emphasizing the importance of education in the reconciliation process in post-conflict countries.
„The Peace Education program is carried out in communities that are nationally diverse. It offers new and innovative educational methods for reconciliation and dialogue. This program combats stereotypes, discrimination and prejudice, while emphasizing human rights, dialogue and respect for differences “, Ambassador Reinersten said.
“This program strives to develop feelings of individual responsibility toward accepting others, which is consistent with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals,” Ambassador Reinertsen emphasized.
Mr Elvir Đuliman, director of NDC Mostar thanked everyone who participated in this program.
′′ I hope that these educational programs will be implemented in the coming school years. I believe that a culture of peace and tolerance, as well as other Peace Education values, will be more systematically incorporated into Bosnia and Herzegovina’s formal educational system as a necessary precondition for the development of a sustainable and functional country”, Mr Djuliman said.
One of the trainers for teachers Marija Ćavar expressed her satisfaction with the effective association of government and non-governmental sector in the implementation of joint educational programs.
Teachers Zumreta Marić, Victoria Bukovac, Davor Barišić, Nihad Granulo, Admira Šeehidić and Mirjana Perić highlighted positive experiences during the workshops in their schools, and expressed their desire and readiness to continue the program in the next school year.
